Power Block

as I’m slowly rebuilding the home gym since i lost it all in hurricane Harvey. I’m trying  figure out if i should Go with a full set of dumbbells or move to something like the power block adjustable dumbbells to save both space and money. Does anyone have experience with adjustable weight dumbbells? Pros? Cons? Personal experience? Basically, help me figure this out by sharing your knowledge please.

I have heard of them, and

I have heard of them, and have seen them (power blocks) and they seem perfect for a home gym. I know a trainer that is setting up a home gym and loves them simply for the fact that they are a space saver. I am sure there are draw backs as there are for anything. But drawbacks can be overcome with a little creative thought :)

Most power blocks I've seen don't go up very high in weight. What's the heaviest set you've foulnd?

I haven't seen them that

I haven't seen them that heavy, but I haven't looked that hard either. 125 would be good for me except for Kroc rows, but you could always get some chain and add that to them.

125 would be plenty for me as

125 would be plenty for me as well and I may even be able to get by with the 90's as long as i get creative with the barbell. I've priced them out and it's almost as cost prohibitive as buying an entire set of dumbells. I'm going to have to keep thinking on this one.

Also, trying to figure out what I can do about making a compact(ish) cable machine for the garage as well.

I have a set of Ironmaster DB

I have a set of Ironmaster DB’s with the additional weight that goes up to 120lbs per DB. Top notch and sturdy as shit. They don’t rattle at all. Watch Craigslist that’s where I got my set at a big time discount.  I got lucky.

i have the power block

i have the power block dumbbells. Only up to 50lbs right now but I’ll get the 90lbs add on as soon as I find a store that has them in stock. Also have a bench that folds up. I keep them in the back of my truck and mostly use them when I don’t make it to the gym. It’s perfect for my situation. I live on an oil field location working nights. So I must have all personal stuff out of here every day.

I was reluctant to get them at first because the blocky looked like they might feel unbalanced.  I’m not sure if I just got used to them or what but I absolutely love them. If I had the space I’d get a full set of reagular dumbbells but if space is a issue I highly recommend them. If the 90lbs limit is an issue... brother get your butt to the gym.

So I’ve been working on the

So I’ve been working on the powerblocks for about a month now. I’ve got the 90lb set and will be ordering. The 120lb extension soon. They are rather large but well balanced. They do have a rattle but it’s just there to remind you that your working. All in all, I’m happy with my purchase and would suggest anyone who doesn’t want to take an entire wall with a full set of traditional dumbells buy these for the home gym
